Hello from Cambridge, Minnesota!
I’m Bert – a proud queer creative, husband, dad, and founder of Bert Jones Productions & Design Studio. I share this beautifully chaotic life with my amazing wife of over 20 years, our two rambunctious dogs, two aloof cats, and our four incredible kids – two sons, two daughters – all grown now, but always at the heart of everything we do.
Let’s rewind a bit. My graphic design spark first lit back in 1997 while working as a cashier at OfficeMax. When they launched the CopyMax division, I was instantly drawn to the printing gadgets (and let’s be honest, the smell of toner). Before long, I found myself behind the counter with a shiny new Mac, loaded with design software and absolutely no clue what I was doing. Armed with a QuarkXPress manual and sheer determination, I taught myself the ropes one keystroke at a time.
Fast-forward to 2001, when my brother-in-law (a seasoned designer himself) helped me snag a spot at AlphaGraphics. That job became my creative bootcamp – learning the ins and outs of both graphic design and print production by solving real-world problems for real clients.
Today, I run my own freelance design studio full-time from home, blending 25+ years of experience with a never-ending passion for design, accessibility, and creative problem-solving. I specialize in everything from print and digital design to PDF remediation and 508 accessibility, using tools like CommonLook to ensure every project is inclusive and polished.
But that’s just part of the adventure. In the thick of the 2020 pandemic, I teamed up with my friend and partner-in-chaos, Kat, to launch an event-planning venture – proving that not even a global crisis can stop a good idea (or a glitter cannon). Then in 2023, my wife officially joined me at BJPDS and we became an LLC – a true family affair, adding even more depth and services to what we offer.
